I want to thank you again for an incredible experience. Your passion really inspires me and makes me want to write all the time. I feel so lucky that I got the opportunity to be free and learn so much during those two days.

writers festival participant

Drawing on decades of teaching creative writing at writers’ festivals, community centers, universities, and K-12 schools, Katie offers workshops and one-on-one tutorials that focus on demystifying the creative process and helping writers tune into the wilder side of their imaginations. She also coaches writers on spoken word performance and is dedicated to spreading the word through the voice as well as the pen.

The workshop was way too much fun for English class alone.

Before I had class with you, I literally feared reading poetry, and the thought of writing it made me want to cry. Thank you so much for honestly helping me to enjoy writing—I never did before.

Watch this AWP “Writers in Conversation,” an exchange between Wick Poetry Center Director David Hassler, two nurses from the Kent State University College of Nursing, and me about writing community poems (especially about nursing and healing). Enjoy!
